In the past 12 years, I have used 2 different cordless 2-line phones for use in my home office. Eventually, the phones will no longer hold a charge even when batteries are replace so I have to replace them about every 5 years. After researching phones that are available, I purchased this Philips Dect 6.0 2-line cordless phone. I absolutely love it. It is light weight, attractive, and compact so it does not take up a lot of space on my desk. I am very pleased that I can mute and hold lines from both the handset and console. Setup is extremely easy for voicemail, reviewing messages, deleting or saving messages. I would definitely recommend this phone and would purchase it again.Philips SE6591B/17 DECT Series 2-line Cordless Phone with Answering Machine (Black)

Phone has crystal clear reception, good looks, very light, holds very long charge if batteries are properly charged per instructions and is very stylish. I purchased another for my parents. Has a very nice clock while charging. Shaw A.

I use a land line and OOMA (VOIP/internet service) and absolutely enjoy this phone. The older 5.8 GHz have interference and the batteries don't last long. This Philips 6.0 Dect phone uses easy to find and easy to replace AAA rechargeable batteries (how convenient). The unit is light and has a wonderful color screen. The contact list transfers to each phone. The setup was easy and the sound quality when using either phone service is great. The dual speaker phone is crisp and clear. If you have Magic Jack, OOMA or Vonage you will like using this 2 line phone. It can be used as either 1 or 2 lines. Sleek and beautiful!

This phone has such mixed reviews on amazon I'm glad I trusted my previous knowledge of Philips and bought it with the extra handset. My reaction is very positive.
Battery and signal endurance are faultless. This was our main reason for changing from a G.E. 2 line.
The buttons are crisp firm and not slow. The graphics are elegant. The white letters shine against the black background much more helpfully in the dark than vice-versa.
Philips invented the toggle switch back in the sixties but they have wisely not used it here, unlike Panasonic whose main selector was clearly going to be the first (of a few) buttons to wear out -our main reason for ditching their 2 line (just after the warrantee ended!)
To answer a few more of the criticisms: there are just enough plain ring tones for a 2 person office, but the majority of users who only need 2 lines are home offices with one for business and one for family. In which case the more musical tones are just great for the latter. You can title & change the graphics on each handset to make it easier to know which phone is from which base.
Our set had a faulty speaker in the main table base but the speakerphone quality in each handset is better than any speaker (base or otherwise) we've ever experienced. Its the handset you're using so stand it upright on its cleverly flat end & let it do the work. That end also mates with the charger prongs better than any other brand.
In normal use the handset sound quality is the best we've experienced.
Yes you can put both lines on hold, and back, and also put the same line on hold and back. See pages 36 and 38 of the very easy to read manual!
Size is compact but bigger than a cell phone. The plastic is rugged without being rubbery so go ahead drop the phone -my son did- no problem.
The very large phonebook capacity is liberating.
The customization of prefixes is great and the phone plays well with our fax. All the other advanced settings give great versatility.
My theory on some of the negative responses is new product learning fatigue. People develop set instincts based on the operating systems of their old phone and it seems annoying to make even small changes when your office calls are already stressful. There's often two ways to do the same thing on this phone (line selection, menu activation) so relax, pick your favorite and soon you'll develop new instincts with the best phone you ever got -the 6591

Great two-line full feature telephone answering machine for the price. There are other multi-line telephones with and without answering machines which are more expensive. This telephone offers all the features, but may not be as sturdy as the more expensive telephone systems. Telephone made of light weight resin plastic and can break/crack if dropped or mishandled. (More expensive telephones made of stronger resins.) The telephone features and design compensate for the outer shell. Product has functioned for six (6) months without problem.
